Creative and unexpected sentence's by Michael Cicconetti
The case began when Michelle M. Murray, a 25-year-old woman from Lake County, Ohio, was charged with abandoning 35 kittens in two different parks in Mentor on September 19, 2005. Many of the kittens were sick with respiratory infections, and tragically, nine of them later died. The kittens could be traced back to Murray because they were still wearing identification collars. She eventually admitted to dropping them off, which led to charges of animal abandonment. The case landed in Painesville Municipal Court, presided over by Judge Michael Cicconetti, who was already known for his unusual approach to sentencing. Instead of limiting punishment to conventional jail time, Cicconetti offered Murray two options: serve 90 days in jail, or accept a creative silence which included, One night alone in the woods of a local park, without food or entertainment (though weather-appropriate clothing was allowed), 14 days in jail, 15 days of house arrest, A $3,200 donation to the Humane Society, A $500 donation to the park rangers who had rescued the kittens. Murray chose the second option.

Although this story is interesting and well summarized, for blog entries to be compelling the reader should understand: 1) why you think it's important; 2) what your perspective is on the issue (for example, if you're a victim advocate -- the kittens were the victims in this case -- you could write from that perspective; and 3) what the consequences or wider perspectives are (in other words, use your brain and think critically).
