Robert Downey jr before becoming iron man

 What happened

back in 1999, a now well known actor and super hero Robert Downey jr was arrested for dealing with drugs such as heroin, cocaine and 357-caliber magnum. He was given three years of probatio, and a year later he skipped a court ordered drug test and spent  another whole year in prison in America.

Recent interviews

Robert Downey Jr., now sober and successful, talked on a podcast about how troubled he was during his time in jail years ago. He said that when he was in court, the judge seemed angry and even spoke some Latin, which made Downey feel like the judge was “casting a spell” on him.About two weeks later, he was sent to Delano, a dangerous intake center where inmates aren’t separated by type. He described it as one of the scariest places he had ever been. Downey shared a memory of leaving his cell to take a shower without realizing his underwear was on backward. Other inmates laughed at him, and he remembered feeling embarrassed and uneasy. Although he said being in jail was “the worst thing that happened” to him, he also explained that people can surprisingly adjust to very difficult situations. Downey is currently hosting a new docuseries called Downey’s Dream Cars, which is streaming on Max.

  1. Since Robert Downey Jr. is so famous as a successful actor, I would guess that many people don't know about this aspect of his past or have forgotten about it.

Remember that the purpose of a blog is to express your personal perspectives and opinions on issues that you introduce. Please tell us what you think about how whether someone who has committed such serious crimes should be allowed to stay in show business and reach such heights of success.

You post should add something of value to the original story you're reporting on. One way you can do that here is by speculating if something similar would be possible in the Japanese context. Can someone who has committed drug and weapon offenses continue on in Japan with their talent agency and with television or movie appearances? Is it conceivable? Have there ever been any similar cases like that in Japan. Those are the kinds of things that your readers would be curious about.

  2. I did not know that while he is a famous actor he was arrested and in jail for years back then. It is interesting that some actors do drugs and have such an easy access to them, also even after getting arrested they somehow manage to get back to the work is just astonishing.
